Getting to Know is an interview series I’m starting on Y&I members so we can, get this, get to know each other better! No doubt during our social/networking events we mingle and talk to many people, but this is an opportunity to learn about our peers in a way we may otherwise would not.
This post, I interviewed Adrian Hinckley, a Mortgage Broker who works at Wells Fargo.
Give us a brief bio, where you were born, and how you got started in your area of expertise/job/business.
Helping Hands IllustrationAs a 2nd generation Mexican/American, I was born and raised in the border town of El Paso Texas literally 100 yards from the Rio Grande/Mexico. As a child I grew up watching many immigrants swim, run, climb or go through a fence, dodge cars on the highway, hide, and get caught from our living room window. What I remember the most about growing up in El Paso were the day trips I would make into Mexico with my grandmother for her to buy her items. Specifically, I remember the children I would see, my age, begging or selling Chiclets Gum for money. I lived only half a mile away but in a completely different world with completely different lifestyles.
We moved to Southern California when I was about 10 yrs old, where I lived until I graduated from Servite an all boy’s Catholic High school. I decided to take a year off of school to get my hands dirty and work for my uncle, a developer in California. My wife and I moved to Beaverton Oregon not long after our first child was born because it seemed and is a much better place to raise a family then the hectic California lifestyle. I’ve worked in Hillsboro and have been drawn to it’s diversity for a couple years now.
Name one person who has inspired you. What did you learn from them and how have you put that into practice?
I’m inspired by the hundreds of children with no clothes, no home, no father, no education, no opportunities and only a box of Chiclets.
What do you do for a living? And how did you fall into that position?
I’m a home Mortgage Consultant for Wells Fargo. After hearing countless stories of people being taken advantage of (mostly by people of the same culture) for lack of knowledge or understanding, I decided that if I was just honest with people that I could be very successful.
Catch us up-to-date on how you came to work with Y&I? And what “position” do you hold?
I was invited to Y & I by Bob Rollinger (Hillsboro Bank Manager) over half a year ago. Recently, I was voted to participate as Co-Chair for Y & I along side with Jenni Glatz.
In your own words, what is Y&I?
As Young and Innovative individuals we all have a personal and professional story to share. Y & I allows us the opportunity to network and share those stories, develop the relationships and maybe find a missing piece of the puzzle that will help get us to the next level, all while having fun.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Please join us for Y & I to share your story, experiences and services! We are going to have fun and make some great friends in 2009.
